ADBC Congratulates Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson on Historic Confirmation

Today was yet another historic day under the Biden administration with the confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson as the next Supreme Court Justice. For the first time in the 233-year history of the Supreme Court, a Black woman will finally take her well-deserved place on the nation’s highest court — — Hallelujah!

Judge Jackson is highly qualified and will be ready to serve on day one. She brings to the bench a wealth of judicial experience and will be the first justice with experience in criminal defense since Thurgood Marshall when she served as assistant public defender in Washington, D.C for two years.

While the world witnessed, with shock and outrage, of the hostile questioning of Judge Jackson during her confirmation hearings, for many Black women, it was all too familiar of our own experiences in the workplace. Luckily for us, we know how to persevere and push on (as we roll our eyes). In the words of Senator Cory Booker, “I’m not going to let my joy be stolen…”

The Arkansas Democratic Black Caucus appreciates the bipartisan support of the 53 senators who helped make this day possible by voting for the confirmation. However, it’s unfortunate that Arkansas’ two U.S. Senators, John Boozman and Tom Cotton voted against confirming Judge Jackson.

Today was a great and positive day for all Americans as we witness the shattering of yet another glass ceiling. Let’s celebrate this victory, but the fight for victory in November continues. Let’s register more Arkansans and motivate them to vote so we can help bring positive change to our state just like today.
